Summary

VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is seeking a full-time Urologist to join a large and expanding Surgery Department. The practice involves all aspects of Urology. Candidates must have strong academic aspirations with focus on clinical and/or basic research and teaching.

Responsibilities

THIS IS AN OPEN AND CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED EVERY TWO WEEKS AND APPLICANTS NOTIFIED UPON REVIEW. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL THE POSITION IS FILLED OR ON THE CLOSING DATE, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST.

Provide quality patient care to both inpatients and outpatients in accordance with approved clinical privileges. Expectations include maintenance of a high degree of excellence in clinical outcomes while providing efficient patient care throughput. Maintain professional competency, courtesy and flexibility or provide the necessary services of this specialty. Attend and participate in outpatient clinics and take an active role in the evaluation of the patient, decision for treatment/care, and complete and timely documentation in the patient electronic records. Collaborative patient management along with the other departments and sections of the hospitals including, but not limited to, laboratory, Medicine, Radiology, and the auxiliary services. Candidates will take Urology surgery call together with the other members of the Urology surgery section. They are expected to evaluate and treat Urology emergencies in the Emergency Department, Outpatient clinic, Inpatient ward, ICU, and the Operating Room. Candidates will attend all meetings required by the Organization and the Surgery Service in particular.

The assignment requires candidates to be proficient in General Urology and DaVinci robotic surgery, and be able to perform:

  • Cystoscopy;
  • TURP;
  • Small and major Urology cases (open and minimally invasive, incl. radical cystectomy), and
  • Robotic prostatectomy, nephrectomy, and partial nephrectomy).

  • Work Schedule : Varies with weekend and on call

    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA Policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office .

  • Qualifications

    :
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

  • Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Urology
    Experience and skills in Endoscopy, Laparoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic), and open surgery form treatment of conditions affecting the urogenital system, alone or within the frame of multi-disciplinary surgical

    Physical Requirements:
    Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking (1 hour), standing (1 hour), near vision correctable to 13' to 16' to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20, hearing (aid permitted), emotional/mental stability, working inside and outside, working closely with others, working alone, working with hands in water, protracted or irregular hours of work, slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
